To Maria, services that work improve people’s quality of life. And when they work, it’s because they’ve been designed. A commercial engineer from the Catholic University of Chile with a master’s degree in Service Design and Innovation from the University of the Arts London and a Service Design Academy Certificate from Design Council UK, she decided to specialize in service design because she wanted to learn new ways of addressing challenges. “I believe in the power of design centred on human beings in order to create innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions,” she says. “After three years of working in this area in England, I saw UNIT as a space from which to design change in Latin America.”
