This community space serves as a meeting point for residents, enabling them to engage creatively and collaboratively with public and private sector actors, as well as with their own local environment. The facility includes a digital fabrication lab, auditoriums, and workspaces, all designed to support and welcome community-led initiatives.
Applying Unit’s Public Design model – which integrates strategic design methodologies and collaborative work – a new public innovation institution was created to bring La Fábrica to life. As part of this innovation process, surveys and co-creation workshops were conducted with 85 multisectoral stakeholders, including municipal and community teams, as well as representatives from academia, the private sector, civil society, and public innovation.
La Fábrica was co-designed and built with the participation of 85 key actors from the public and private sectors.
The strategy behind La Fábrica, which defines its vision and institutional structure, is a prime example of public value generation at the local level through a collaborative innovation process.

The goal is to drive the municipality’s economic and social transformation, focusing on the sustainable development of opportunities through public-private collaboration and active participation from Renca’s residents.
At the end of April 2021, this project became the only public service to be awarded by Pulso’s Sustainability Hub in the category of Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure at the 2020 Sustainable Initiatives Awards.
