The mission was to develop a comprehensive design that would respond to the specific needs of the field and establish a knowledge and collaboration platform for professionals and stakeholders, should the opportunity or need be confirmed.

In the case study of the Mater Knowledge Center, Unit adopted a three-phase methodology to assess the feasibility and design of the specialized center in pediatric nephro-urology.

The first phase, "Prepare," involved setting up project governance and organizing previous materials, carried out in close collaboration with the Mater team over a two-week period. The second phase, "Research," lasting three weeks, focused on identifying needs and opportunities through interviews with potential users and workshops with the board of directors. This stage concluded with a research synthesis that provided insights to inform the strategy. Finally, the "Design and Deliver" phase was dedicated to developing and refining the center’s design through feedback sessions and internal adjustments with the Mater team, resulting in the delivery of a detailed strategic document over an additional three weeks. This methodological approach ensured a structured and collaborative development tailored to the specific and time-sensitive needs of the project.

Activities carried out included:

  • 12 in-depth semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders
  • 2 in-depth semi-structured interviews with family members
  • 3 interviews with Mater clinical professionals
  • 1 workshop with the Mater Foundation board of directors
  • Secondary source research and benchmarking
  • A total of 24 collaborators were involved
